Robert George Collier Proctor (1868-1903), bibliographer, was born in Budleigh Salterton, Devon, on 13 May 1868. He was educated at a preparatory school in Reading and at Marlborough College, before joining Bath College in 1881. In 1886 he entered Corpus Christi College, Oxford (B.A., 1890). Proctor worked at the Bodleian Library from 1891 to 1893, where he catalogued incunabula.
